about Oli

My style is quite varied, but I’d like to think that there is a common theme in my work: the love of drawing and making images.

I admit that I’m inclined to try different drawing and painting styles, which is probably a reflection of myself. I wanted to be a pianist when I was young, but instead ended up with a degree in Manufacturing Engineering (De La Salle University, Manila). However, after university I found myself in professional theatre (Repertory Philippines). I had an amazing six years working as an actor (it didn’t feel like work), then moved to London after deciding that I actually would like to pursue visual arts and design. I earned my degree in BA Graphic Design (major study: Illustration) at Central St Martins, London. I was also fortunate enough to study in Paris for a few months via an exchange programme (Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs).

Since leaving art & design college, I have gone through a host of (what I still call) “day jobs” - theatre, opera house, giftware/houseware brander & distributor, talent agency, investment banks, private equity association, and even a prominent tech & retail company! However, I still identify myself as a creative person (dare I say, ‘artist’), and grateful that I am still able to work on projects that excite and inspire me.

Some of the artists I wish I could channel: Van Gogh, Beardsley, Lowry, Hopper, Freud, Degas, Klimt, to name a few.
